The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that 1 in 3 women and 1 in 7 men will experience intimate partner violence in their lifetime. The Department of Justice reports that in the US someone is sexually assaulted every 98 seconds.
Exhale to Inhale empowers those affected by domestic and sexual violence to transform their lives. ETI uses the healing practice of trauma-informed yoga to empower survivors, while helping communities to develop skills and knowledge to support them.
The story in this video that is so beautifully read by Exhale to Inhale volunteer teachers, illustrates the complex, manipulative, and insidious nature of intimate partner violence. We were inspired to share this story, and while It's one person's story, it could be many of our stories. It's part of a collection: stories of domestic violence by Beating Hearts, and is being read here by ETI Teachers & Volunteers.
What we do is more than just yoga. Exhale to Inhale's trauma-informed yoga classes are a tool that help survivors of domestic and sexual violence reconnect to the power & strength they have - and have always had - inside them, so they can create the lives they want to live. The yoga mat is a safe place where people can begin to reconnect with themselves, to practice making choices, express when something doesn’t feel right to them, and figure out what would work better.
