Our Story

Exhale to Inhale was founded as part of a senior project in 2013 by Zoë LePage, while she was at Barnard College. Someone Zoë loves deeply is a long-ago survivor of domestic violence and while in college, Zoë learned that several of her friends were survivors of sexual violence. Witnessing the trauma and pain that her friends & family struggled with – long after the physical effects of the violence had faded – Zoë felt compelled to do something. Since yoga had served as a therapeutic tool for her, she suspected it would be helpful for survivors of domestic and sexual violence. Zoë knew intuitively what research has since proven – that yoga can reduce many of the symptoms of trauma and Post Traumatic Stress disorder (PTSD). She founded Exhale to Inhale in honor of her loved ones and named it based on the idea that sometimes we have to let go, exhale, that which is no longer serving us, in order to inhale new possibilities. Zoë’s vision: bring the healing power of yoga to survivors of domestic & sexual violence, especially those who would benefit from the practice, yet might not otherwise have access to it.
