Our Mission
Exhale to Inhale uses trauma-informed yoga to empower survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault while providing communities with tools and knowledge to support them.
Our Vision
Exhale to Inhale envisions a world where every survivor has access to the healing power of trauma-informed yoga.
Why Trauma-Informed Yoga?
Every 68 seconds, an individual experiences sexual assault.
Trauma affects both the body and mind, impacting the nervous system and often, creating a sense of disconnection. Many survivors struggle to access traditional therapy due to stigma, financial barriers, or discomfort with talk therapy. Trauma-informed yoga provides an accessible, empowering alternative to engage survivors and promote broader healing.
Exhale to Inhale is working towards a world in which every survivor has access to the healing practices of trauma-informed yoga.
Trauma-informed yoga offers survivors a powerful, body-based path to healing. Through breath, movement, and choice, it helps regulate the nervous system, rebuild a sense of safety, and foster reconnection—supporting both physical and emotional well-being. By offering accessible, inclusive practices, survivors of all backgrounds and abilities can engage in healing on their own terms.
OUR PROGRAMS
Exhale to Inhale’s trauma-informed methodology is rooted in safety, simplicity, and choice-based philosophy. We offer classes for survivors, partner agency staff, and the community at large. We also train teachers, leaders, and counselors to lead in a trauma-informed way.
Partnership Classes
Partnerships with 81 different nonprofits, shelters, and rape crisis centers to bring trauma informed yoga and wellness to clients and staff.
Yoga Classes
Live, online, weekly 30-minute classes allow community members to check in on their stress levels and connect with their bodies.
Trainings & Scholarships
For yoga teachers, healthcare workers, and wellness professionals, and more to create trauma-informed spaces. Additionally, we provide scholarships and continuing education opportunities.
OUR IMPACT
Trauma is not only an event but an experience held in the body.
Survivors of domestic and sexual violence face long-term healing. Trauma-informed yoga helps address the physical and emotional aftermath, reducing stress, anxiety, and pain. It’s a scientifically supported, body-based practice that promotes safety and empowerment through choice-based movement, breath work, and nervous system regulation.
Our Research
Our methodology is self-empowering and provides survivors with the resources necessary to reconnect with their bodies, calm their nervous systems, and decrease levels of stress. Most importantly, once experienced, our methodology can be used anywhere and at any time.
Since 2018, Exhale to Inhale been conducting its own surveys in partnership with the New School for Social Research to measure the impact of our methodology.
We measure stress, bodily pain, and sense of agency before and after an Exhale to Inhale Class. The data shows that students feel a statistically significant improvement across each wellness measurement.
